Ozone In Water Treatment
Ozone generators produce ozone by passing
oxygen through an electrical field. Ozone can be used in the air as
a gas, or pumped into water to create ozonated water. Ozone is a very
powerful oxidant which oxidises organic and inorganic material, including
bacteria, viruses, microbes and fungal spores. Ozone coverts back
into oxygen after its oxidising process. For this reason the use of
ozone is one of the most effective methods of purifying water, without
leaving a dangerous or unhealthy chemical residue like chlorine.
Because ozone purifies water so effectively, it can be used for different
types of water treatment, from drinking water to the treatment of
water in industrial applications.
Swimming Pools
- an investment in an ozone generator can purify
the pool water, cutting down expenditure on pool chemicals to
an absolute minimum.
- no more burning eyes and chemical toxicity.
- can be used in jacuzzis and spas to prevent the
unpleasant odours associated with the growth of fungus, mould
and mildew, as well as bacteria in the recycled water.
- destroys bacteria 3000 times faster than chlorine.
Cooling Towers and Sprinkler Systems
- the use of ozonated water in cooling towers prevents
the corrosion of steel due to biofouling and microbial action.
- eliminates the need for the use of chemicals.
- saves man-hours in checking chemical dosing systems.
- reduces costs by using air as a media and power
of only 200 watts.
Disinfection of Equipment and Stainless Steel Surfaces
- ozonated water is very effective for cleaning
and disinfecting equipment and stainless steel.
- ozonated water does not have the corrosive effects
of chlorine or unhealthy chemical residues plus contamination
of the taste and so can be good in applications such as dairies
and wine making equipment.
Industrial and Commercial Water Uses
- in industrial applications where purified water
is required, ozonated water is used as a chemical free alternative.
- pharmaceutical sterilant.
- water for soft drinks.
- manufacture of any products containing or requiring
purified water.
Industrial Waste
- for the purification of water contaminated with
industrial wastes such as chemicals and toxins.
- prevention of the chemical pollution of waste
disposal areas such as rivers.
Municipal Water
- in Europe many municipalities, such as Helsinki,
purify their drinking water with ozone rather than with chlorine.
- ideal for areas where the water source has been
contaminated with effluent and human wastes.
- provides a water supply which has not been contaminated
with chemicals, and is free from odours, bacteria and organic
material.
