KYDEX®
High impact, fire-rated profile extrusion compound
DESCRIPTION
KYDEX® acrylic/PVC profile extrusion compounds offers
exceptional impact resistance, chemical resistance, rigidity, and
flame retardancy.
FEATURES
- High Impact Resistance:
Depending of grade KYDEX compound offers 15 ft-lb/in (801 J/m)
of Notched Izod impact resistance (ASTM D-256) making it extremely
resistant to cracking and abuse.
- Broad Chemical Resistance:
Extruded profiles made with KYDEX compound are extremely resistant
to harsh chemicals, solvents, and cleaning agents.
- Extreme Fire Retardancy:
Depending on grade KYDEX compound offers fire retardancy ratings
of UL STD 94 V-O and 5V, and FAA flammability compliance.
- Color Stability:
Profile extruded of KYDEX compound exhibit long-term UV color
stability. Exterior weatherability is dependent on grade and color.
- Depending of grade, KYDEX compound
exhibits flexural modulus to 450,000 psi (3099 MPa)
APPLICATIONS
- Electrical equipment
- Business machines
- Computer equipment
- Medical equipment
- Appliances
- Aircraft interiors
- Mass transit vehicle interiors
- Automotive interiors
- Other high performance applications
PROCESSING CHARACTERISTICS
KYDEX P26 compound should be processed using rigid PVC extrusion
equipment under standard PVC operating conditions:
- Barrel temperatures in an extruder should
be set at 330-340°F (165°-171°C)
- Adapter and die temperatures should
be set at 340-350°F (171°-177°C)
- Screw RPM's of 23 to 33 are typical
- Typically single screw extruders are
used for pelletized material
- Conical twin screw extruders are used
for powder
- Pre-drying is not required
